What can I do to support a hyperlexic child?

There is a lot you can do to support a child with hyperlexia.

Firstly encourage and support the hyperlexic child’s love of reading and the alphabet. Follow their lead in their interest in reading. There is no reason not to support their interest in letters and words.

Secondly, if they are struggling in any areas, especially in  understanding language it is worth checking with your GP. If there are delays contact a professional to get early help and tailored support for them.

Thirdly you can find out more in the books, articles and links page. It is interesting to read more about hyperlexia, particularly some first hand experiences of adults who read very young.
